1. SCHOOL-TOURING SHOWS

The winter months here at Kaleidoscope are filled primarily with school-touring performances. Kaleidoscope has several award-winning shows that can come to your child's school this spring!

We have educational shows, such as "B.U.L.L.Y." (Better Understanding by Listening and Learning about You), which addresses the ever-present and often dangerous problem of bullying amongst children, and "I'm Special – You're Special", a show that deals with the inclusion of a young boy with Down Syndrome into his brother's and sister's school.

Several of our smaller fairytale productions, such as "Little Red Ridinghood" (suggested for K through 6) and "Goldilocks & the Three Bears" (suggested for pre-K through 3) also tour to schools!

Please encourage any interested parties who are curious about our programs to visit the website or call our office at (401) 942-3637 to discuss the shows in greater detail!

2. UPCOMING PUBLIC PERFORMANCES

Although Kaleidoscope does a lot of school performances during the winter, we still have public fairytale performances planned throughout New England and beyond!

On February 7th, we will be presenting "Goldilocks" as part of Westborough Special Education's fundraiser! The show will be at 2:00pm at Westborough High School and tickets are only $8!
To purchase tickets in advance, please mail a check to the Westborough SEPAC c/o of Gayle Harrold at 8 Chamberlain Court, Westborough, MA 01581.

In March, we will be performing "Little Red Ridinghood" in Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and New Jersey! On March 15th, come watch the show at the Saugus Senior Center in Saugus, MA. The show is scheduled for 2:00pm and there is a coloring contest to win front row seats! For more information or to reserve tickets, please call the Center at (781) 231-4178.

Then on March 21st, Kaleidoscope will be performing "Little Red" at the Kelsey Theatre in West Windsor, NJ. Show times are 2:00 and 4:00pm. Please call (609) 570-3333 for more information!

To finish out the month, we will also be performing "Little Red" at the Rhode Island Home Show on March 29th. Cinderella and Snow White will also be making special guest appearances! Stay tuned for more details!

3. THANK YOU,
CVS!

At this time, Kaleidoscope would like to thank CVS Corporation for making another donation of toothpaste! As many of you know,a tube of toothpaste is an integral part of the opening workshopfor our B.U.L.L.Y. show. The toothpaste is compared to words, rumors, or gossip that might be spreading in the school.

Our performers ask a student volunteer to squeeze out all the toothpaste onto a paper plate and then ask another student to put all the toothpaste back INTO the tube. Of course, it's not possible to return ALL of the toothpaste to the tube, just like it's not possible to take back the words that you speak or undo the damage your words might cause to someone's feelings.

Thank you, CVS for helping us make this valuable comparison!

4. THANK YOU, RISCA!!

Kaleidoscope is proud to announce the return of "Aladdin" to our summer schedule! This fairytale will be remounted for 2009 with the help of grant money from RISCA (Rhode Island State Council on the Arts). Recently, Kaleidoscope was awarded a grant to produce three new backdrops in collaboration with Laura
McPherson – the wonderful artist who created Cinderella's new home last year.

McPherson and Kaleidoscope volunteers will be designing and painting three new drops for the show: an oasis, a bazaar, and the Sultan's palace. Much of the work will be done with Kaleidoscope volunteers over April school vacation – Stay tuned for photos!
